Charity of the month: Lives Not Knives

Our charity of the month for May is Lives Not Knives. Each month we choose a charity from our charity partners to donate a portion of the proceeds from every car we scrap. 

A disproportionate amount of knife crime happens in London. Statistics from the independent report of crime and policing states: “In the year ending September 2020, there were 152 knife offences per 100,000 people in London, compared with a national average of 79 per 100,000.” It’s vital that we take action against this.

Lives Not Knives

Lives Not Knives (LNK) is an innovative, youth-led charity that works to prevent knife crime, serious youth violence and school exclusions by engaging, educating and empowering disadvantaged young people and supporting them to enjoy their lives and improve their future prospects. 

LNK offer a unique strategy that centres around personal one-to-one mentoring, educational school roadshows, a fun after school club, and a free summer programme of activities so that all the young people we work with can overcome adversity and transform their lives.

Eliza Rebeiro, CEO of Lives Not Knives, said: “Lives Not Knives are extremely grateful for your support, we are dedicated to helping young people stay safe, reach their potential and have fun. One of the ways we do this is by running a school holiday programme that is solely funded by donations and gives young people a place in the community with games, a warm meal, and mentors to support them. 

All of the young people we work with are referred to us by schools, parents or the local authorities for anti social behaviour, weapon carrying or needing mentoring to convert their energies into something positive. This programme helps young people to overcome obstacles, sets an example for others and benefits not only them but the entire community.”

Charity of the month

Our charity of the month runs alongside our donate my car scheme. If you have decided now is the time to scrap your old car, you can also additionally choose to donate some or all of the proceeds to one of our chosen charities.

Every car we scrap throughout May will help us provide funds to Lives Not Knives. This will assist them with their school holiday programmes.
