5 top tips to get the best price for your scrap car

All End of Life Vehicles (ELVs) are worth something, even if it is the scrap price. Here we have put together 5 top tips to make sure you get the best price for your scrap car.

1. Don’t remove any parts from the vehicle

Removing parts from your vehicle is the easiest way to lower the value of it. Not only does the value start to decrease, but it can be much harder to sell your vehicle as it will put many companies off. If you start to remove parts such as tyres or wheels, it can be much more difficult for a company to come and collect your car. To make sure you get the best price for your ELV, keep all of the parts on it.

2. Sell your car to a reputable dealer who offers a guaranteed price

Do you want to be haggling with the company when they come to collect your car and try to reduce the price? We thought not! Unfortunately, this is still very common within the scrap industry. It’s best to always make sure you give an accurate representation of the car to start with and make sure the price is guaranteed.

At Scrapping A Car, we don’t only guarantee our quotes so we won’t try and haggle you down last minute when you have no other option, but we actually guarantee them for 10 whole days. This gives you chance to make your mind up on scrapping your car. As long as you have given an accurate description, we will give you the price agreed with absolutely no haggling.

3. Choose a company that offers free collection

Many scrap car dealers will charge you for the collection of your ELV. This can sometimes come as a nasty surprise when you get paid for your vehicle and they have deducted the cost of collection.

We offer free collection on all vehicles, this means the price you are quoted, is always the price you receive.

4. Claim back cash from your vehicle tax

Did you know you can claim back your vehicle tax? Once you have scrapped your car, inform the DVLA and they will automatically cancel your vehicle tax and refund any outstanding tax that you have paid for.

5. Don’t fall for this trick!

Some scrap car dealers will try to reduce the value of your ELV if you inform them that you don’t have the logbook, otherwise known as the V5C. Don’t let this happen to you! This trick is used in the scrap car industry to try and get cars at a cheaper price. The DVLA does not require the log book for scrapped cars.

At Scrapping A Car, we will collect your scrap car without a log book and we will never try to knock money off the guaranteed price that we offer for this reason.

We hope you find our 5 top tips to get the best price for your scrap car useful.
