Celebrating International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global day marked annually on 8 March. IWD celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and is a focal day in the movement for women’s rights.
This day is extremely important for a variety of reasons. Whether it’s raising awareness about women’s equality or celebrating women’s achievements, it’s a day to be celebrated by all.
The 2021 theme for International Women’s Day is #choosetochallenge. The British Metal Recycling Association (BMRA), whom we are members of, are celebrating women members working in yards and offices across the UK who help keep metals recycling contributing to the circular economy. The BMRA said: “Along with everyone in metal recycling they are true recycling heroes.”
The BMRA are celebrating by encouraging women to print off one of their selfie sheets and post it on social media. They encourage the use of hashtags: #womeninscrap #choosetochallenge and #recyclingheroes. Head over to their website to get involved and show them how you support women in metals recycling: https://www.recyclemetals.org/newsandarticles/celebrating-women-in-scrap.html
Metal recycling is often thought of as a primarily male dominated industry. However, the work here at Scrapping A Car wouldn’t be possible without the fundamental women within our team. As a company, we want to thank every woman that works for us. Whether that be in our yard or in our offices, we really do appreciate you, thank you!
